This organization is the largest institutional donor in Asia. For this client, pi STRATEGY conducted an impact assessment of a multi-million dollar non-sovereign investment in the telecom sector, with special focus on a BOP-targeted micro-entrepreneurship initiative.
This engagement involved a nation-wide survey that provided primary research data. The data was analyzed to extract key insights about what worked and what objectives still remained unfulfilled. The primary survey data was supplemented with a series of interviews with key informants. In addition to identifying the impact from this investment, the Firm also helped develop a go-forward strategy for the client with a view towards further investment considerations.
A key insight that emerged from this study was that while certain ideas may provide important impetus for micro-entrepreneurship at a certain time, the impetus does not remain in perpetuity. Often times, hard decisions are required to discontinue certain strategies after they have served their purpose. But in discontinuing any long-standing support, special attention is required to think through alternative revenue-generating activities for those that are likely to be impacted negatively from the discontinuation of that support
